About Kingston and the Islands

Kingston and the Islands

Kingston is centrally located between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal - a UNESCO World Heritage site. The famous Limestone City lies where the limestone meets the Canadian Shield at the heart of the Great Waterway with the Thousand Islands and the Frontenac Arch Biosphere to the east, Prince Edward County and the Bay of Quinte to the west, Rideau Heritage Route and the Rideau Lakes to the north, and of course Wolfe, Howe, Amherst and Simcoe Islands, and Lake Ontario to the south.

The community-minded citizens of Kingston enjoy an unprecedented range of academic, artistic and recreational opportunities in addition to leading edge health care facilities and excellent municipal services and social programs. Kingston consistently ranks as one of the best places to live in Canada and in 2014, it was named one of the top seven most intelligent communities in the world. The community's vision is to become Canada's Most Sustainable City.
